  1. The Vezina Trophy is now given each
  2. year to the best goaltender in the NHL,
  3. as voted by the leagueΓÇÖs general
  4. managers. Before 1981, the award was
  5. given to the goal-tenders on the team
  6. that allowed the fewest goals in a
  7. season. The first goalie to win the
  8. Vezina Trophy was George Haines-
  9. worth, who had been Georges VezinaΓÇÖs
  10. replacement in the Montreal goal, after
  11. the 1926-27 season. George also won
  12. the award the next two seasons. In fact,
  13. Canadiens goalies dominate the list of
  14. the awardΓÇÖs winners. Three goalies for
  15. the team have won the award five or
  16. more times: Bill Durnan, Jacques
  17. Plante, and Ken Dryden.
